What is a daily affirmation and why is it important? Daily affirmations are specific, simple, and positive statements about yourself. It is what you want your life to look like. Your life may not look like your daily affirmations but essentially you are tricking your mind into believing what you are speaking.
When you are saying daily affirmations you are speaking them into existence. Here you will find the formula to create personal daily affirmations! Now let's get started!
1. Begin each statement with “I AM”
This is the key to creating daily affirmations. It's not “I wish I was, fill in the blank.” It’s “I AM, fill in the blank!” You are putting yourself in the state of success or peace or whatever you're trying to obtain, in this moment.
2. Create your affirmations in the present tense
Because we are tricking our mind into believing what we are saying we need to speak in the present tense. If we want this affirmation to come into fruition, we need to speak it like it's already happening.
3. Be positive- Turn your negatives into positives
Always, always, always use positives in your affirmations. This is what you want your life to look like. What you say matters. When we speak positive words our entire demeanor changes. You might stand a little taller, smile a little more, or care for others instead of ourselves.
4. Tie each affirmation to an emotion
When an emotion is tied to anything it becomes powerful! It’s more than just words, it's a feeling. This ties into finding your WHY for each affirmation. Why do you want to become successful from using daily affirmations? Why do you want to be more happy or lose the weight? When you find your why that strikes emotions, you have anchored that affirmation.
5. Create your own
Your affirmations are for you and you alone! They are specific to your goals and what you struggle with. You may have found some affirmations that resonate with you but tweak it so it applies to your life even more.
At first it may feel awkward or unnatural to use affirmations. Confidence comes with practice. We've all seen it in the movies, the guy or girl standing in front of the mirror trying to hype themselves up. As funny as these scenes usually are, this works! Try staying in front of the mirror and saying your affirmations out loud. Schedule time in your day to say your affirmations. They are effective anytime during the day but it's best to practice them in the morning to set your day off on a positive note. Right before bed is also a great time to say them. This anchors what you are saying into your subconscious.
Your life isn't going to drastically change when you start using this practice but you will see a shift in your outlook on life. Be patient with yourself and stay consistent using your daily affirmations.
