Did you know only 8% of the population achieve their goals? Yikes…. That doesn't sound very good. You've probably heard me talk about how we need to set goals in order to live the life we want and make choices that are aligned with our dream life.
But here's the thing, most of us don't even know what we want out of life.
These 4 steps will help you set a goal and actually achieve it.
Step 1: Pretend it’s one year from now and you are looking back on your life. It was the best year of your life! I want you to write down what your life looks like. How much money are you making? What does your happiness look like? How are your relationships? How is your health? How do you feel waking up in the morning? What is your purpose?
Describe in detail what the best year of your life would look like. Focus on where you want to go and what you want to do. It’s easy to know what we don't want out of life but it is crucial to know exactly where you are going.
Step 2: Start saying NO! This might be a tough one for some of you and for others (like me) it will be a sinch. ;)
Since you know what you want your best year to look like you can determine what is in line with that goal or not. If those things do not move the needle to your best year yet, say no. Easy as that. Create a “not to do list.” this will save you time and keep you focused on what matters.
Step 3: Attach an emotion to the goal. This is one of the biggest things most people miss. When you attach an emotion to the goal, it's hard to forget and not follow through with. Emotions move you and make you move. Emotions make decisions. So if your goal is to lose 20 pounds, attach it to an emotion. How will you feel after losing the weight? Will you find your confidence again? And what will finding your confidence do for you? How will you feel if you don't reach your goal? Don’t miss this big one!
Step 4: Write it down! Without a set goal in front of us we forget about it. Write it down and post it everywhere. Put it on your phone, leave a note in your bathroom, write it in your journal everyday. There is so much power in having your goals in front of you. Without it, we make choices that are not in line with what we want in life.
If you are serious about reaching these goals, you will follow this 4 step process. And just see what it will do for your life.
