If you have never said anything negative about yourself, skip on past this one ;)
We've all said something negative about yourself that is not true one single bit. But why do we say that? And how did you feel after speaking to yourself like that?
I am in the middle of reading Millionaire Success Habits and it took us through an exercise. It had us write down all the things we are saying to yourself that is having a negative effect on us. I brushed this off and said “pshhh I don't talk negatively to myself…” I moved on past and kept reading.
Later that day I looked into the mirror and said “ugh I look so fat!” Um, excuse me! How rude! I went on a run to try to feel better about myself and the entire time I was thinking “Fitness is a privilege!” And then it clicked!
THAT right there is the negative thing I say to myself that is holding me back from becoming my best self. The words we say have an impact! Instead of saying “I look fat.” I need to change that to something like “my body is strong, look what it can do for me! I can run, I can sprint, I can do push ups (even though I hate them), I can do burpees!”
The smallest things you say to yourself matter. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. If I continued to say those negative things about myself, I could give up on my fitness and become unhealthy. And how you do one thing is how you do everything. If I give up on my fitness, I give up in my work and in my relationships and my nutrition, and my dreams and everything else. You get the picture, right?
So speak kindly to yourself and know the power of your words!
